The Former Rose Of Glenthompson Poem by Francis Duggan

The Former Rose Of Glenthompson

She was a beauty years ago she has known a better day
The former Rose of Glenthompson in brown dye cloaks her gray
A grandmother of 56 and a single divorcee
Three decades ago in her prime few as beautiful as she
The former Rose of Glenthompson not what she used to be
A beauty on her wedding day when she was twenty three
Those who did know her in her prime her beauty do recall
The years on her begin to show time takes care of us all
The bloom of youth is not a thing that anyone can hope to regain
But memories of her beauty with those who know her does remain
Once the Rose of her Village but time on her did not wait
On beauty as in life itself there is a use by date
From her Homeplace of Glenthompson she now lives far away
And with a light brown hair dye she cloaks her silver gray.
