The Fly Poem by Walter de la Mare

The Fly

Rating: 2.9

How large unto the tiny fly
Must little things appear!-
A rosebud like a feather bed,
Its prickle like a spear;

A dewdrop like a looking-glass,
A hair like golden wire;
The smallest grain of mustard-see
As fierce as coals of fire;

A loaf of bread, a lofty hill;
A wasp, a cruel leopard;
And specks of sale as bright to see
As lambkins to a shepherd.

Use a proof reader! It’s ‘salt’ not sale!

Why would the smallest grain of mustard seed look like coals of fire?

Walter’s poems bring life to people and have since he wrote his first one! He made poems that mean things to him, so what he thought, he wrote and did that till the day he died! Not many people like poems they are not imaginative but Walter tried to make his poems lots of things, he got a bunch of ideas and put them all in one poem! He was the Top British Poet!
