The Flags Of Hate Poem by Hebert Logerie

The Flags Of Hate

Rating: 5.0

As the saying goes in Latin:
“Vox populi, vox Dei”.
It is time to remove the Confederate
Flag of hate,
From the buildings
Of the People, from the State House,
From our consciousness,
And unconsciousness.
This symbol belongs somewhere else,
In the poubelle of a distant past.
Just like the walls of Berlin
Were torn down; we should very fast
Give that flag a similar fate, for the sins,
The crimes, the injustice
Committed under the shadow
Of this emblem of hate, of malice.
Let’s not wait for tomorrow,
Let’s not wait for another day.
Today is the day of reconciliation,
The day of forgiveness.
We must act, take action
Now, to renounce the ills of the past,
To denounce the criminal acts
Of a few deranged men and women.
We must burn the seeds of racism,
We must crush the eggs of bigotry,
We must remove all flags with evil tendencies,
We must sink all vestiges of cynicism,
To espouse the beauty of brotherhood,
Not the ugliness of selfishness and arrogance.
We must built bridges of compassion and common sense,
Not borders or frontiers of oppression in the neighborhood;
We must remove all flags of hate.
Let’s make today a historic date
That we shall remember
Forever.
