The First Kiss - Poem by Sangnam Nam

You held my hand
I knew
it had to be you
... My beloved,
to make the miracle
take place
in my life
the moment when
you were offering
your hand not
but just holding my hand
all my senses were going
towards you
nobody but you
Oh, what a wonder
that was
you would never know
how it had been
with no help available
just on my own
trying to find out my way
out of the gloomy confusions
and denials
endless and tedious
that I mattered not
to the people and to anyone
but you came along and made me
a whole new being
with your noble spirit
I was able to be myself
with you
and that moment when we together
stayed still
with our lips meeting for the first time
the time stopped there
nobody stopped us
nobody could
it was meant to be
and that was the ecstasy
you are my ecstasy
where are you tonight?
Do you remember those days
when our hearts were yearning
for each other
needing no one else
but each other?
here we are
parted torn apart
yet longing for each other
My heart goes towards you
I yearn for you and your gentle kiss
This has got to be a real joke!
Why should I spend my life
longing for the one who is not around
That's what they call tragedy
the tragic case of our first kiss
only ended with painful parting
but the kiss remains
as a miraculous accomplishment
that only you could achieve.
You won my love
that no one could
you still set me on fire
that no one does
but you are not around
that's a pity
O what a pity this is!
the tragedy is the result of my first kiss
and the senses are staying around
that none could replace
Ah, times change things around
but my longing for you hasn't changed
it was you in the end
that I truly love
and adore
this is no joke
I am talking serious now
I have found my true love
but he is gone long gone
so the only sin that I have committed
was to have kissed you
and had you in my arms
for the first time…
but didn't keep.
