The Father Knows

Do you know why
the father gives your brother
who is stupid, selfish, and lazy
more attention and favor than you
who is intelligent, not selfish and not lazy?

The answer is because
the father knows that your brother
can't go as far as you can
can't climb as high as you can
can't achieve things as great as you can.

We are as clouds that veil the midnight moon;
How restlessly they speed, and gleam, and quiver,
Streaking the darkness radiantly!--yet soon
