The Fateful Wednesday Poem by Girija Menon

The Fateful Wednesday

Rating: 5.0

Mid week – A Wednesday- a bit bleak
Monday, Tuesday– most hectic days of the week
Wednesday breaks up this routine streak
Perfect time for friends to meet

Friends that help you unwind
Recharge ones body and mind
Metros offer fun in all forms
Mumbai known for its night charm
Roads and highways are never calm
Drawing crowds all over town

This Wednesday night – no different
While people make merry in restaurants
Gang of ten, dock on the waterfront
Guns and grenades make up their consignment

City they enter – bang on the center
Ten young men trained to murder
Innocent people their targets
Kill as many is their project

A crazy mindset
Ten men arrive to upset
Lives of the innocent
Immerse the city into bereavement

Four days they take hostage
Citizens and staff in their bondage
Blood flows – lives hoping for salvage
A tough battle to the end
Perish they do – this beastly entourage

Loose we did - our brave solders
To this gang of butchers
Brave sons of proud mothers
Home they came in caskets
Wrapped in tricolor
Salute and honor them with respect

A year has gone by
Mothers and daughters left to cry
Culprits under trial
Countries accuse one another over this file

Wonder, when will we seen this end?
How do we ever defend?
ourselves from this awful trend
Terrorist at every bend
Ready to kill and never repent

Prayers for the departed
Salutes for the brave hearted
Console mothers kindhearted
Sacrificed there sons
for a country tormented
by terrorists who are demented
