The Fascinating State Of Minnesota Poem by Marilyn Lott

The Fascinating State Of Minnesota

I think it is so gratifying when I can visit
The states in our beautiful country
Landscape, architecture and people
Are truly so fascinating to me.

Minnesota was admitted as the 32nd state
On May 11,1858 and called the Land of 10,000 lakes
It contains some of the oldest rocks that
Have been found on earth, for heaven sakes.

Dakota people early Minnesotans were called
There were fur traders in the 17th century
Logging was popular for many years
Creating a high volume of lumber, you see.

There was an iron mining industry in the 1880s
But the Great Depression hit hard the economy
So folks lived the best way they could
But many changes were very plain to see.

Whitetail deer and bobcats roamed along with
Grouse, geese, pheasants and turkeys
Temperatures are in the extremes in Minnesota
Hot summers with a severe winter freeze.

So take the time to visit, if you possibly can
Or read back when the state was new and raw
Up to the present time to compare
The progression of the state of Minnesota!
