The Eyes Of A Child Poem by Edward Schriner

The Eyes Of A Child

I saw into the eyes of a child today
And I saw hope staring back at me
The windows of a young soul
So clear for everyone to see.
I have a chance to make a difference
In this small life brought before me today
So I ask you, Lord, to speak through me
And tell them what you wish to convey.

Give me patience, good Lord
To help me teach this one so fair
Allow me kindness and understanding
To act with gracious love and great care.
For I cannot do this alone, Lord
So in your hands I give full control
For it is by your love, oh Lord
That makes a difference in one's soul.

Let me be your mouth, good Lord
And let my hands become as yours
Allow me to be your spokesperson
From our land to distant foreign shores.
Thank You, Lord, for giving me the love
And the powerful insight in order to see
For I saw into the eyes of a child today
And I saw hope looking back at me.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Wrote this on a Greyhound bus coming home to Kearney, NE from Kingston, NY because of a 5-year-old boy who kept peeking at me from the seats in front of me.
