The Events Of A Day Poem by Uriah Hamilton

The Events Of A Day

She tossed her bracelet
into the weedy vacant lot
that I gave to her
when we were young,
not a costly jewel,
but the essence of my heart
was intricately connected
within every link
like a tattoo carved in skin.

My weariness and wariness
is a product of this event,
I can't be caught this off guard again;
I can't fall in love today
to swim in trash heap streams tomorrow.

Casual sex, I guess,
is a form of looting,
stealing intimacy like a purse
and then discarding it
but I'd rather discard
the events of a day
than the dreams of a life.

Put in pails, to the side of the road If only we could toss out our regret There'd be a landfill sky high Where bundled bouquet flowers die.. Minds recall what the heart won't forget....
