Kannada poem: Dattatreya Ramachandra Bendre
Translated by C.P. Ravikumar
Winds of attraction blow
From the North pole to the South
As the Sun and the Moon
Play their catchup game
One more time.
The blue Earth is where they have planned
Their sweet rendezvous
Month after month, with much ado.
But the moon is a teaser,
She enjoys the chase
More than saying 'I do.'
The forests have blossomed and shed
A million times
Thrilled by the prospect of the union
And shattered by the disappointment.
The waves of the oceans have waxed and waned
With hope and despair.
What stops the moon from saying Yes?
You will have to ask the stars.
They have watched this endless love saga
Without battling their eyelids for years.
