The Earth Lives Longer Poem by G. Akanji Olaniyi

The Earth Lives Longer

Wishing you a happy birthday
Even a many happy returns
With long life and shower of its goodness
In sincere expectation of the years coming upfront
That is how far I can go
But the earth lives longer
See the colour and you wonder
It has faded over time
Could be snow white years gone past
Get closer and perceive the odour
It stinks of negligent overuse
Could be nicer than your adorable perfume
Listen and hear its cry
Its fainter than yesteryear
Could be louder than roar of a lion
Watch in attention the slow drift
You may discern you are slipping
Be careful of an impending landslide
It is old and weary
Older than the earliest man or woman
Ask your fore-bearers
There are tales to tell
Stories of cultivation, exploration and exploitation
Could be both heartwarming and heart-wrenching
The earth lives longer than you or anybody
Than you can ever imagine!
