The Difference Between You And I. Poem by Lauren Harper

The Difference Between You And I.

The funny thing is you pretend to be great. You walk around with a mask of hate. In reality all that you needed was me. But you never knew that I didn't need you to be me. So now you wallow around, with no hand to hold, as your hair turns gray. And maybe just one day it will fade, like the sun into the night. But then again it will come, just like the moon. See the difference between me and you, is that you need me but I don't need you to shine bright. Take yourself, and that empty hand you hold dear, and walk away from this life that you no longer control. Walk away with that mask that you hold, know I will be great, but you al along you've been bred to be engulfed in hate. You and I end here, and you will go; but me, I will not allow myself to fold. See after all we've been through, you've grown bitter little boo. You don't know who you want to be, but not me. I know one day I'll be in the books you refuse to read: I know one day soon I will become all that you refused to believe. I'll see you on the street, clutching that book that you promised you'd never read, there on the cover will be me.
