The Diamond Ring Poem by Edwina Reizer

The Diamond Ring

He gave me a diamond ring, he did.
He gave me a diamond ring.
He gave me a song to sing, he did.
He gave me a song to sing.

I wore that ring night and day
but the song just went away.
'Cause my heart knew something wasn't right
when I heard him say,

'I'm gonna need that ring for a while.
I'll get you another soon.'
He took my ring and off he went
whistlin' a tune.

I recognized that tune you see.
It was the song he gave me to sing.
And so I followed the sound of the tune
and saw what he did to my ring.

He gave it to another fool
and gave her a song to sing.
My heart said to me night and day,
'That ring didn't mean a thing.'
