The DEVOURERS Of ECSTASY

Deserts shall not have a foliage by mild showers.
Gods let rain fall on them who may bloom flowers.
But mine shall always be a crimson, blood-drenched hand
For my fate not lies in garlands, not desert sands.

Oh! My ecstasy has been murdered and devoured upon,
So I shall reside in the ravages of ghastly haunts.

How do I address the predators of my own bliss?
As the devils, or the angels, or the darkeners of my blue lips
Makers of this sanctity-devoid soul
Or the residents of the shadows of my own world

Imparters of torment, turbulence and terror,
Consumers of ceremonial chaos and care
Are thou?
Recruiters of thy barbarous messengers,
Thou are reminders of my sinful dares.
Inducers of unpleasant relapse
Thieves of the desired comrades
Oh thou! The master of all the odium!
Why did you come in my mausoleum?

Thou shall be greeted with no altruism
For thou vandalized my heart’s province
But I pray thou prevail, you are, since
The Devourers of Ecstasy.

Poet's Notes about The Poem

‘ Devourers of Ecstasy ’ was composed to mark the end of poet’s joy, devoured by the inner demons. The lines in the beginning tell how little moments of happiness have no effect on the dark self of poet. I say that even the almighty provides a life of complete joy to those who can make it productive. The identity of poet is always dark and mystified. The feeling of ecstasy has been personified as poet’s lover and it’s loss leaves a similar effect as the murder of a loved one.

There is anger, hatred, loss in faith and a strong sense of revenge accompanied by another strong sense of helplessness. The poet never intends to be hospitable to the devourers, yet there is a plea for them to prevail; only because the poet wishes to be captured intensely by anger, that can supersede the helplessness and fulfill the true desire for revenge.

The poem is relatively short but leaves a strong impression. I have heartily tried to show a fine use of rhythm and alliteration, which should not seem forced. All I want is that the state of mind shown in the poem should be seen as omnipresent and not as unique so as to get a better, more personalized meaning of it.
