The Desert Of Misery Poem by Rick Elpers

The Desert Of Misery

The skeletal remains
Left to bake in the sun
Pealed away tissues
To expose a withered heart
Listing from side to side
Watching for signs of life
Where once dreams abound
Now the weeds grow flowering
Seeds of waste
Spreading hither and yon
Leaving only memories
That the flesh on those bones
Actually gave rise to hope
