The Demise Of Youth Poem by Lora Colon

The Demise Of Youth

Rating: 4.5

The Bird of Youth has waved farewell,
With heavy heart it waved, then turned,
A bit senile, it flew near the sun,
Then fell to earth, slightly burned

The Bird of Youth lost its feathers,
Its chances of flying are remote,
It needs help just getting off the ground,
Air balloons keep it afloat

Dear Bird of Youth, you had your chance,
But you're no longer in your prime,
You stood around as life passed you by,
You can't make up for lost time

Sweet Bird of Youth, stop looking back,
Feeling remorse is not the answer,
The fast beat of life's music stressed you,
You were just a slow dancer

Poor Bird of Youth, full of regrets,
Remembering chances you never took,
Don't dwell on a past that can't return....
Come..... it's time to close the book

This beautiful poem gives a lot to think about. First, 'it flew near the sun', what real life event was the 'sun' for this youthful bird? We probably all have some regrets, my biggest regret was spending too much time... umm, lets call it angry even though it was so much more. Everyday I now try to never think that I stood around as life passed. There are so many chances every day in life, I take those I think best, and try to never dwell on those I skip.

The book's not done; I just turned the page. - - - - - thanks, Lora, for sharing your fine poem and being my inspiration for my little one. :) bri p.s. yes indeed, instead of regretting, better endeavor to do as much good as one can.

What a haunting poem. It's insight is fabulous, wonderfully written. Not everyone embraces their youth full force, but it does not mean they have to reflect on their life in sadness.. acceptance is key.
