The Deceiver's Web Poem by Maria Luz de Castro

The Deceiver's Web

Armed with charisma,
earnest eyes, a charming smile,
and a sweet tongue,
the deceiver breezes in,
convinces, entices,
persuades...

Awed by his brilliance,
seeming sincerity, kind face,
and touching words,
the deceived brightens up,
believes, concedes
empathizes...

The deceiver holds the power
to play God over the deceived
who takes in his every word,
and does his every bidding.
Then he 'discovers' newer territories,
and sails on to uncharted seas...

Woe to the deceived!
Chained for life
because of his trusting ways!
Compromised his liberty
because of his naivete!
Helplessly caught
in the deceiver's web...
