The Days Rewind Poem by Patricia Kelley

The Days Rewind

I know the kid is home for summer.
I don’t want to load her down, so much where life becomes a bummer.
I just need to relax.
And forget about the chores that fall through the cracks.
I know sometimes I get irritable.
I’ve tried to be charitable.
But it’s the small things that get on my nerves.
She gets into the home reserves.
And gets the peanut butter out,
Leaves it on the counter, with the lid off, I just want to shout.
And gets into the honey, and leaves the lid off, I just want to shout.
Not to mention the sticky stuff all over the counter.
I have to be quiet or we’ll have an encounter.
I’m not sure what to say.
It seems when I do, I just ruin her day.
It’s just the way she was taught.
It’s just an imperfection that I caught.
I know she’s not perfect.
I just want her to show respect.
And wash the dishes right.
So, I don’t get up tight.
I don’t want her to clean where everything is out of sight.
Out of mind,
The summer days rewind.
