The Dark Road Poem by Kimberly Diane Allen

The Dark Road

Rating: 5.0

A shadow of the shell of the man he once was,
He sold his soul to wet his tongue.
Pulled by dreams of long ago,
Traveling a long dark road,
He's lost, alone, and lookin' old,
Trying to escape the burning sun.

He was anointed by the fire.
He was blessed by the saints.
He is tortured by the Devil,
Possessed by demons, his blood taints
All he loves, all he holds dear.

Alone, she stumbled upon his dark sin.
Screaming her pain, her heart betrayed,
She chose to walk the dark path with him.
Trying not to feel anything he'd made real,
She bared her soul to Hell as day grew dim,
Beseeching the flames warmth again.

A spirit of fire, passion reigned,
Brilliant beauty walking too tall.
Pride forsaken, her spirit weeps
And mourns the rise before her fall.
She hides away from light of day.

They try to hold to one another
On a trip made to be taken alone.
Each must face their own reflection
And the end of the dark road they're on.
They're united together by God and man
But the Devil had to have his way.
They each stepped out of God's light,
Now the Devil's come to collect his pay.

Their children cry out to God for mercy,
Their parents pray for raining of God's grace.
Each alone must fight their own battle,
Each must stare their own demon in the face.
