The Cricket Club Team Captain Poem by Francis Duggan

The Cricket Club Team Captain

Today he made the vital catch that won for his team the game
And tonight in the cricket club rooms he relives his moment of fame
Club supporters pat him on the back and tell him he is great
With a smug look upon his face his ego does inflate
The cricket club's team captain in the town is well known
For cockiness and arrogance with the best he holds his own
He likes the sound of his own voice or so it does appear
Down at the cricket club rooms him one can't help but hear
He cannot help the way he is his dad too is this way
Breeding does beget breeding as some are known to say
Suppose most of us like recognition but some like it very much 'twould seem
And suppose without his fan club he would lose all self esteem
Today he made the vital catch that inspired his team to a great win
And tonight his loud voice can be heard above the club room din.
