The Cream Poem by Lonnie Hicks

The Cream

Rating: 2.7

In every choir
there is one singer not singing;
every march
has the one soul out of step;
with all smiling
there is the one who does not;

for every total agreement
the lone dissenter,
the outlaw
the renegade
the outlier
the one who says no
to the multitudes

Cherish this looking away face
the singer in the different octave
the voice
not so loud
but persistent and unwavering
in it's singularity-
the voice of the Ideals;
of democracy
of science,
of progress.
The intonation of Hope,
the Face of Faith
the greatness
of the human race;
forging steely dreams
against the odds.

This is the secret
of genius
making its way
to the top
to eventually
become
The Cream.
