The Courtroom Poem by White Monkey

The Courtroom

Bang! Bang! My heart sank
I held my mum’s hand with thanks
Waiting for our turn
I held my head down blushing with concern

Then my parents’ names were called
But he was nowhere in sight in the hall
The hall was cold
My heart couldn’t be consoled
I couldn’t really remember his face
All I could think of was coming here again to this place
I hated him for abandoning us
It really took a toll out of mum

I knew the courtroom well
Because I came here almost every week, bloody hell
It became my 2nd home for 2 years
To fight for a few more penny with tears

Bang! Bang! I hated the gavel and block
I wish I could talk
To tell the judge that I didn’t like his grammar and hammer
Still, there was nothing I could do except to clamor
For a Justice in my heart

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
a painful part of my childhood. I was only 4 or 5 years at that time. My biological father either didn't want to pay maintenance fee or delayed paying to my mum. That is the background of this poem

Wow! ! So creatively presented in awesome and apt rhyming word choice. I admire each line and sad for what happened. Deserter dads are a pain of modernity. In the good old days faters were good n caring usually and hardly ever deserted wifey n kids. Kudos. Pls do review my latest poem too. Titled Tanzania.

Such a sad poem. My dad and I hated each other, but he never left us (until he died) . I can't imagine what you must have gone through (although your poem helps the imagination a lot) , must have been very frightening for a child (and your mum) .
