The Country Poem by Richard Anders

The Country

I wanted to live in the country
away from the city I`d dwell
I wanted to live in the country
just me all alone by myself

I sold up my house and belongings
bought a house on a hill by a burn
I wanted to live in the country
to the city I`d never return

it`s so peaceful out here
where the water runs clear
and the Call of the Wild is so stong
no shouting no banging no music no clanging
out here on the moor I belong

I wake up at dawn with the curlew
as he calls me to dine on the moor
fresh milk from a farm(the butter`s a charm)
and nobody comes to my door

I do what I like when I want to
I laze or I walk in the sun
o`er moor and o`er hill I do what I will
and my life is a barrel of fun

There`s no one to say 'Do this' or 'Do that'
there`s no one to boss me around
I work at my leisure and work is a pleasure
and I get my reward from the ground

I don`t have a phone or a telly
and I don`t have a gas bill to pay
I grow my own food and the living is good
out here on the moor where I stay

It`s a nice way of life in the country
where Silence is greater than Speech
and I do hear the sound as I wander around
of the oak and the ash and the beech

outdoors at night is a wonderful sight
there are millions and millions of stars
I ponder and wonder if maybe out yonder
there are people on Venus or Mars

I`m happy out here in the Country
with the bleat of the Ewe and the Lamb
the spacious moor comes up to my door
and I know just how lucky I am!

I agree with Roseann's comments. I can see this moor and feel the quiet. It soothes my soul.
