The Confession Poem by Aslam Marikar

The Confession

Forgive me lord for I have sinned.

It was a cold monsoon night
Her eyes to the brim with sorrow
With limp and sway she walked hurried towards my way.

Forgive me lord for I have sinned.

She hid her heart clamping it against my chest.
Embraced me hard, found comfort
And sighed;
My pains are now at rest.

Forgive me lord for I have sinned.

I sat her beside me.
Inquired upon her agony;
In response she bit her lip
And with her brow she began to knit,
Then poured her tears silently in a fit.

Forgive me lord for I have sinned.

She dropped her chin
Her cheeks faint and thin;
Upon my touch did it flare,
Which I did raise with care.
Then with lips apart did she stare,
And I drown in its diluted care
So we embraced and thus the cold night
Was made warm.

Forgive me lord for I have sinned.

That night, the stars veiled by cloud.
We promised each other
To conceal this sight only to our eyes.
Not to share with our lovers
Who might not understand
Destinies prize.

Forgive me lord for I have sinned.

I was weak and enraged.
When her lover all deranged.
Made unworthy my prize
That 'Destinies Prize',
Which sacred I kept,
I now heard was shared
By many others that
she had apparently met.

There I broke my Promise.

Forgive me lord for I have sinned.
