The Clearing Poem by Edmund V. Strolis

The Clearing

Rating: 4.2

Move softly when you pass the clearing.
Your heart may jump into your throat
Contain your outward exuberance
Silent like a church the clearing hums.

Grasshoppers perch launch and leap
As waves of butterflies float and dip
Set before a tree lined arena of green majesty
Solemn toadstools bask in shallow hollows
Dragonflies are agleam in vibrant metallic sheen.

Not even a whisper should ripple this magic
Become a sunflower observing from on high
Tread softly, now grow roots, embrace the soil
Silence will reveal all the treasure you seek.

A radiant sun warms every stem, bud and wing
Deep cold and sparkling runs a tiny creek
A lily pad the throne of a bullfrog so regal
A lotus of white to adorn the royal court
The Green King reigns over his shimmering world.

Silence is not for sleeping but for awakening
So slip your shadow and be free of the weight
Leave it tangled in yesterday's nettles and thorns
The moment is calling, you need only listen.

Great descriptive write. I loved the concluding stanza most. Yes, we fail to hearken to the calling of the moment trapped miserably in the past. Thus, we miss all the vibrant clearings of life. (10)

Precisely so, I think of how we are deafened to the world around us. How we cheat ourselves out of that gift of life.

The moment is calling...you need only listen. Superb imagery that takes the reader beyond the petty n trite life. A discerning heart sees beyond the visible. I can feel a spirit moving n stirring in the Nature you have described so beautifully. You have gone into the soul of Nature and conjured up the images that are both enthralling n enlightening. A write that brings to life the philosophy of Pantheism. A super 10.
