The Clays Poem by Jay Alexander

The Clays

Rating: 3.5

The clay men rise and shine,
Poke their clay heads out of windows,
And note the day is sublime.
Drink their coffee from clay cups, munch
Toast from clay toasters and opine,
That life couldn't be finer than this,
And for them this is just fine.
Kiss clay wife and clay kids, and before
Leaving, give them a clay thumbs-up sign.
Outside the terrace of clay houses,
Mr. Clay meets Mr. Kaolin:
" Good morning K ", " Good morning C ",
" Gosh! is that the time?
Have a clay-day old man,
Must rush or I'll risk cutting it fine."
K. climbs into his clay Jag
And drives off at a drop of a dime.
Clay continues his walk to catch his
Clay train and feels he's on cloud nine.
Today is the day his boss
Will announce he'll resign,
And Clay will take his job,
A post he just couldn't decline.
That evening at dinner, Clay
Opens a clay bottle of wine,
" How so " says Mrs C. " What's to celebrate! "
" Me! " says Clay " for the day is mine. "
On giving the news, Clay and Mrs.Clay hug
Kiss, the kids shout: " Daddy you're divine."
" There are many out there who'll be jealous, "
Says Clay, " Stick together, that's the bottom line! "
