The Carnival By The Night Poem by Eoshoros

The Carnival By The Night

Rating: 5.0

“Prologue”

Days without reason or care
Days of bliss and grace
Days to celebrate
Days of the Masquarade
Hundreds of masked faces
All into a colourful cheerful mess
They go in circles and they laugh
Fascinated and chilled in their hearts
And I...
I already feel sick with all this madness I see
And I...
I already feel sick from all this alcohol I've drink

And for just a moment
I breathe still...
Yet I think I breathe alone
And for just a moment
The surrounding madness almost stops
Anne…
You are descenting the stairs…
With the face of an angel
With a smile that promises you’ve seen places undreamt
Anne…
Almost like you weren’t real…
You are descenting the stairs…
Mesmerizing the senses…
And you can see the men…
You know which are their unholy desires
And you can see the girls…
You can see the unmeasured hate in their eyes
And you know well…
What you can do with a lone sight
And you know well…
What you can do with a lone word
I don’t really care...
I keep on breathing...
Yet I keep on breathing still alone
Hell...
For how long such a surreal moment can go on?

And I…
I feel sick as Hell
In this sicker than Hell Masquarade
And I…
I think I’ll leave you alone
To play thy games
In the way you prefer
No matter who you’ll hurt
Take whatever you want
Since it’s such a pleasure to thy soul

“Part I”

The sounds of the carnival outside
Finally fell in decay
And while I empty a last bottle of red wine
From my window I watch
A now silent and empty world
Wondering what secrets may hide
Behind those closed doors across

Anne…
So fragile you are in my arms
Almost unelusive…
Almost in a dream…
While that illusion of strength
You always veil thyself with
Fades away…
Like the morning mist

Uncared of my touch
You whisper words I know they are from thy heart
You whisper words you never dare to spell when thy eyes open are
Those nights when you’ve drink too much
You care no more…
You drown in my arms…
Crying for things you thought you had buried deep in thy heart

Anne…
I’m sorry I left you alone before
I know you need someone who cares
Always when you are among so many unknown faces
The lights are down now Anne…
You can cry as much as you want…

“Part II”

Why I am here?
Somehow I have found myself
Walking in the cold outdoors
Why I walk through this grey world?
Shapes and lines I thought I was familiar with around me
Yet I had never realized before
How hostile they really were
Yes…
This is the city in it’s silence…
Lifeless…
Empty…
Unhuman…
Unfriendly…
Yet this ice inside of me…
This ice is the only thing I can feel still
To melt this ice
I’ll break my heart
…I can’t

And I sit in the darkness alone
Just watching the leaves
And how they play with the pale wind
…trying not to think
Yet it seems so difficult tonight
The full moon is so bright…
The dark beauty of the Night
Always mirrored in thy dreamy eyes
Rarely, if ever, I cry
Yet I think my eyes are no longer dry
Gazing to the few, yet shining stars above
Mesmerized by the light of the moon
Christine…
Why I see thy face in the night sky?

“Part III”

Come out from the shadows Christine…
You could never hide thyself in the dark
Thy kind heart always shined more than the brightest sun
I’m sorry for the past
Even if my sorry means not much
Words…
So easy they now are

Oh my beloved one…
You know I’m sorry for the very same things you are
In descentance…
We were hand by hand
Yet right you are…
Words mean not much…
How’s Anne?

Fine…
Smile and don’t answer me if you like
It was always funny to decipher thy smiles
Whatever…
Take care of her…
She is far more frail
Than she would ever admit
You see it in her eyes
You mean much more to her
Than she will ever realize
The ghosts of love between you and Anne
She needs them to keep alive somewhere inside
The remnants of who she was once

Christine…
Take my hand
Let’s walk together through the silent dark
Uncared…
Like when we were young…

“Part IV”

Such a full of memories place…
Christine…
Why our steps led us through these strange ways?
Under these same old stars
Endless nights together we passed
And I embrace still in my heart
Our every moment of passion and love
That so wastefully gone…

Regret…
Regret…
Yet nothing to be done
Regret…
Yet what remains for us?
Regret…
Yet nothing more…

“Epilogue”

And now that the sun has rised
And the moon forgot us behind
Where our sleepless souls will hide?

What now Christine?
What now…?
