The Caretaker Poem by RAJ NANDY

The Caretaker

THE CARETAKER

1

Like a gypsy man, with his caravan,
I had been travelling through the road
of life,
Wherever I stopped, it became my home,
My true home I have yet to find!

2

When with my life-time's saving
I found a house,
A dwelling place on this earth,
Yet I remained as a passing guest,
With no roots to bind me to its
hearth!

3

This house which I now call my own,
Is a God-given shelter for this life,
Where I meditate and pray,
And unburden my soul through poetic
lines!

4

With my medical skills I treat the sick,
And try to find some solace within,
But that eternal peace my soul has
yet to find,
With vision of heaven left far behind!

5

I perform my daily domestic chores,
Pay my bills and entertain guests,
Yet I am a mere passing show,
A caretaker of my house, at the best!

Beautiful poetic expression of the isolation that is our common fate and the life choices that drive us to carve meaning in defiance of our solitude.
