The Candle Poem by Nicolas Palacios

The Candle

A candle burns to light my path,
But I blow it out.
A hand gestures me to come forward,
But I push it away.
I am led astray by my deepest desires,
Can you not say the same?
I am tempted by the hottest hellfire,
I hang by my neck in shame.
Judas and I have that much in common.
A tap on the shoulder,
A strike on the face,
I couldn’t be colder to such a warm embrace.
I wish for escape,
I long for safety,
It’s nothing but misinterpreted insanity.
Light the way for me, I am coming home,
Please stay for me, I feel so alone.
Brushing off all of my insecurities,
You are the only one that I need.
Although I had cut and broken the hand,
It returns to me in my desperate hour.
The candle has been lit once again,
And the creatures of night do not tempt me, but cower.
