The Caesalpinia Tree Poem by Gita Ashok

The Caesalpinia Tree

The Caesalpinia tree
that I can clearly see
from my balcony
is so verdant and lively.

Its branches sway gently
to the lilting rhythm of the wind
they seem to caress each other
so very tenderly.

The Caesalpinia tree is home
to many squirrels and honey bees
and it’s also a resting place
for so many of my winged friends.

The parrot, the pigeon,
the crow, the cuckoo,
the myna, the green barbet,
the raven and others come frequently.

They all visit the tree
to share their joy and sorrow
and when I’m watching them
I worry not about tomorrow.

The Caesalpinia tree
bears bright yellow flowers
and it’s such a great pleasure
to see a golden canopy.

The Caesalpinia tree -
so verdant and lively
sprouts brand new little leaves
each time it rains heavily.

The Caesalpinia tree -
outside my balcony
is indeed so beautiful
and a pleasant sight to see.

The Caesalpinia tree is commonly referred to as 'Gulmohur' in India. It is a flowering tree bearing flowers in various hues - flaming orange, blood red, golden yellow, pale yellow and so on.
