The Broken Soul Poem by emmanuel okello

The Broken Soul

today I met a soul
one that swept the bare earth as a broom
spied on the heaps of garbage as the flies
wore tattered shorts
and hugged his possession, a broken dream

five years ago
he dreamed every child's dream
of wealth and purpose
of smiles and kisses
till he waved goodbye to hope
and his parents
only to leave him
the broken soul

a diseased emotion
strained with tones of hatred
hatred for his Creator
with black skies above him
in his lonely planet
craving for a better future
only to see the ugly face of broken dreams and forever be a child of the night
the broken soul
