The Boy Who Shines Like The Sun (2010) Poem by Lillian B. Rose

The Boy Who Shines Like The Sun (2010)

Have I asked you to care for me so much
that we forgot how we began
a vision in the night of pain
A tiger crouches poised on her strength
Looking powerfully at the timidity
of an ordinary boy who is new to her eyes
The tigress was tamed, fearing
the hunters that long to destroy her
for sake of sport; that, boy, is where we began
They made a sport of me
and my scars didn't show for I hide them
beyond a brave face and unending strength
But how long can you face the wolves
and never know who will attack next
I lived expecting the other shoe to drop
I expected hardship; but do you?
The boy who shines like the sun
Your light soothes the wounds left by others
But Boy who shines - why do they say
that you are not what you seem
Why do they say you are careless
the high pitched shrieks or the cries
Of those who hunt me draw near
Boy: Can you hide me in the shadow of your light
so that they can't find me, protecting me from death
I love you and your love is my shield against confrontation
As you guard me where I lay - thinking
How can I do better than this!
