The Boy At Laoy Poem by RIC BASTASA

The Boy At Laoy

the boy is selling
charcoal

the teacher marks
him absent
from school

another boy cannot
make it this year
for graduation in his
sixth grade

his mother is in
the house resting
as she just delivered
a new baby girl

the boy has to buy
her food
a chicken soup
to warm her guts

his father died
two months ago
lost in the sea

the typhoon came
without notice
