The Boundary Set By Stillwater Lake Poem by Jade Someone

The Boundary Set By Stillwater Lake

A fish flies out of Stillwater Lake
A fracture in the surface
Ripples sent across the water
To shatter skies and glass reflections

The fish follows a perfect arc
And lands again in Stillwater Lake
Not a cloud will stop to stare
Not a song will now be played

The frogs on lilies from afar
Continue to ribbit and croak
The birds of night will fly away
No fish but one will move

The fish would hear a sorrowful tune
A melody should play
He broke the surface of Stillwater Lake
But not a sound was made

He’d wondered if he could fly to the moon,
But the moon wasn’t out tonight
The stars instead would fill the world
With their chilling, icy light

He’d hoped perhaps the world would see
and change the way of life
But not an eye peered through the night
It could almost be a dream

The fish, he was back in water now,
And nothing left to do
He knew he’d seen what no fish could see
But that was over now

And what was there for him to find,
When he’d found the world’s secret on the darkest of nights?
He’d wanted so to reach the sky…

He’d wanted this to solve his life,
Only now he had questions anew

He swam in a circle, peering around,
At the beauty of life, all silver and blue,
And he kept at this for quite some time
Not sparing a glance at the top,

For he knew that above was too much
And he knew he would never know what
was above the top of that wall which he’d broke

He’d seen past the edge of the world, he thought
Remembering sight, for now black were his eyes
His thoughts would soon fade, too

The fish made sure of what his last thoughts were
As his body sank up higher
Of silver in the moonless night
When stars shine all the brighter
