The Boston Bomber. Poem by Tony Mushrow

The Boston Bomber.

The Boston Bomb. (The runner trains alongside the bomber)

Training to one day complete the race,
Training to keep up a steady pace.

Training to one day end the race,
Training to show no one a face.

Training for months to keep a time,
Training to cross the finish line.

Training to stop and end your time,
Training to smash the finishing line.

Training to be part of a crowd,
Training to make your loves ones proud.

Training for months inside a cell.
Training for months, how to unleash hell.

Training, pushing, fighting for breath,
Training pulling, bringing death.

Training, faster, keeping fit.
Training, slowly, the bomb makers’ kit.

Training, you hear the pavement slap.
Training you wait for the thunderclap.

Training for running, the body willing.
Training for murder, mayhem, killing.

Training in snow, wind and rain,
Training for bleeding, trauma, pain.

Training to beat the marathon clock.
Training, where to hide the bag, tick, tock

Training.
Training.

Training

Bang.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I wrote this after the bombing to show how the bombers must have trained metaphorically speaking alongside the runners.
