The Battle To Love Poem by robyn nathan

The Battle To Love

Frozen in emotion
We are not to feel the joy of love
I will set sail against the prevailing winds
Search the oceans for this illusive whale
You will disappear and reappear in your own magic and mystery

I am battling these giant waves
Riding the crest and plummeting
All this in the state of frozen emotion
There is no promise of stillness here

I would see myself then this lost voyager
In the depths of the Antarctic
Waiting the ice to melt
One last speck of red blood
Warm in the sea of whiteness
Waiting the rising of this illusive prehistoric creature
Risking all in the hope of the next sighting

Then finding the centre of this perfect storm
Live my own illusion of calm
As all around me battles this elemental being
And fade then into a knowing of total surrender to the uncertainty of love
Unable to question or reason

Wisdom tells me not to persist
But I am without wisdom
Or unable to restrain this wild creatures
That will relentlessly hunt this smell of life's blood

How will you escape your own scent
You will take to the waters
Disappearing
I will stand at the water's edge
Howling
Empty bellied
Still hungering

It will be difficult to see myself in this light
When I call this love
And then accept
I have lost the scent of you
