The Artist Poem by Steve Gregory

The Artist

Rating: 4.5

The rain poured from leaden skies
Upon the sodden ground that lies
Beneath Creators feet.
Bequeathed to man to care
And breed, to grow and feed
His fellow man and leave
A legacy of life for those
Who follow on.
In excellence, mankind believes
That this world is as Creator cedes
But fails to see what he does see
The warp and weft has tattered
The granite faces shattered
And the Creator saw his art crumble
And mankind grumbles as the
Excellence of the artist tumbles
Into the abyss.
And darkness falls…

Sparks, noise and chisels hammered
Splinters fly and shards stammered
Towards the sodden earth
And creator sings with mirth
As his work rebirths.
And the world waits with breath bated!
The Creator sings new life into the
Work he has pulled from the abyss
And refreshed it to give it back
To the people that lost it in the first place.
And light rises…

As Creator smiles at his creation
Mankind trembles in anticipation of the marvel
Of his craft.
And the veil is lifted, as Creator gifted
The planet to mankind, and reiterated
That this is their legacy
To pass on in their surrogacy to
Those who follow on.
This humbling, awesome art
The feet of man impart
Upon the earth sublime to use for all of time
The Artist and Creator are combined.
And the sun shines from a dazzling sky
Upon a sultry earth as mankind dances
With the Artist and the light shines on…
