The Aftermath Poem by Heather Devlin

The Aftermath

Sometimes in life the moon is so bright it wakes you from your sleep
And sometimes in life you see a sight so beautiful you weep
Then darkness comes upon you
Without a warning call
And blankets you in misery
Demanding that you fall
No matter how high up you are
No matter how far gone
Depression can climb higher yet
And hide you from the dawn
No more light to fight the darkness
No more life to beat the odds
No more trusting, loving friendships
That you thought would never die
[no more trusting, loving friendships
the darkness takes it all]
Because the darkness comes upon you
Without a warning call
And blankets you in misery
Demanding that you fall
Showing you the darker half
Your maddened path
And with a laugh
Descending with you to a place you thought you'd lost
Showing you with happy madness everything your life has caused.
