That Would Make Me Not Like You Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

That Would Make Me Not Like You

I would like to...
Do those things with you to do.
I would like to...
Have those talks about whatever we choose.
I would like to...
Know what it is that might upset you.
But I wouldn't like to guess,
Until you say I am correct.

I would like to...
Know that you are happy nearly everyday.
And with me you are pleased to admit and say.
I would like to...
Spend time together and meaningfully.
But I wouldn't want to discover,
You kept secrets intentionally from me.

I would like to...
Hear you laugh because it makes me feel good.
I would like to...
Be close to you and have that understood.
But I wouldn't like to feel,
You were hiding from me anything real.
Or you would rather from me keep anything concealed.
Because...
That would make me not like you at all.

I want us close,
As close as we can be.
And if you don't,
That would make me not like you.
I want to know and feel you deeply.
And if you don't,
That would make me not like you.
I want a lover,
AND a friend.
And if you don't,
That would make me not like you.
I want a lover,
AND a friend.
And if you don't,
That would make me not like you.
That would make me not like you.
