Thanks-Giving Poem by Venkateswaran Krishnan Sreenivasan

Thanks-Giving

Rating: 5.0

I bow to thee O’ lord
For the mercies rained on me
All through these years
From my birth to this day

For the love of my mother
Since I was a babe
For the care of my wife
Through my long wedded life.

To be blest with a mind
Keen to think and know
All deeds virtuous and kind
And to abhor all evil

To be blest with a frame
Brimming with zeal
To work for the good of all
And rejoice over their joy.

For the riches I hold
By thy gracious benediction
Bestowed for the prayers
From my poor childhood days

I bow to thee for my present estate
That even in my dreams
I could not wish to taste
Forgive my wrongful deeds on the way.

For my noble calling of healing
A divine gift from heaven
To relieve and comfort often
Distressed men and women

The past oft beckons to me
With its tearful travails and woes;
My mind wriggles out of its throes
Chastened and reformed.

My faith in my Lord and Master
And my daily fervent prayers
Have stood the test of time
Through almost four score years
