Thank You Mother Poem by Austin Aubuchon

Thank You Mother

Thank you mother.
For all the love you have for me
For watching Charmed with me on your bed
For cooking dinner for me
For having my brother,
And sister
Thank you mother,

Thank you mother,
Because if you didn't love me,
Why wouldn't you hit me?
You can stand there,
And lie through your teeth,
Telling me that everything is just fine
That you love me
As you hit me.

Thank you mother,
For the ideas you tried to instill into me.
Telling me that my father,
Isn’t my father
There was a time that,
For nearly 2 years I dropped out of your life.
Did you ever notice?
So I say again,

Thank you mother
For leaving me in the cold
Thank you mother,
For the bruises of love
Because they are obviously out of love.
The pain I felt,
Was just tough love?
Is that what you are saying?
Am I going to ever get my childhood back?
But,
Thank you mother.

For if you had not beat me,
For if you had not taught me one lesson
I would not have ever figured it out
That I am not alone.
So for that,
Thank you mother.

Now,
I cannot say thank you,
For hitting my brother and sister
Till they cried for hours on end.
I cannot say thank you,
For you lying to my face,
About not abusing me

How about for once you tell the truth?
How about you come to your sons Christmas Play,
Instead of lighting up your own Christmas tree
Or,
How about you show some feeling,
For your son who you say you “love”
When he was in the hospital.
Mother,
How can I call you mom?
When the only thing you have done is give birth to me?
Then put me through so much?
How can I say thank you?

Your mother died
You got to say your goodbyes,
And then there was Great Grandpa
You got to say your goodbyes
All I can say to their corpse,
Is how much I miss them
And even then,
I will never get to tell them goodbye
My life must mean something to you?
Right?
So mother
I must say thank you

For teaching me,
What is right,
And what is wrong
You say you have responsibilities
You say you have to be home
Well then
When will you become my mom?
Where was your responsibility to be my mom?
So again
Thank you mother
