Thank You! Poem by Masa MbathaOpasha

Thank You!

Thank you

With the sun rising to greet the day
And the moon bowing to quit the scene
With the holy silence becoming noise
We are saying thank you softly
In order not to disturb the sleeping gods
With the trees falling faster
than the moments of our lives
With the oceans drying up
into cold and useless dust
We are saying thank you, thank you
Hoping we’re only players in a lonely dream
With animals dying without a reason
With humans turning into first-class beasts
We are saying thank you quietly
Glorifying our confusion,
sanctifying our stupidity
We are saying thank you
sitting in the water
With our dry mouths
gazing at the sky
We are saying thank you
with fashionable eyes
empty and void
We are saying thank you
believing in the shade,
perishing in the heat
Believing in patience
Killing ourselves
with anxiety of possession
We are saying thank you
faster and faster
But ours is a forgotten language
Outdated and long expired
Let’s go back to love
The only temple old as life itself
There we’ll find the safe shelter
Of the invincible
non surrendering humanity
