Than Never Late Poem by Mehta Hasmukh Amathaal

Than Never Late

Rating: 5.0

I said nothing
But repeated everything
Not a word of lament
But mere surrender with consent

She had sent divorce papers
With careful planning sans anger
I was shocked to see it come
How could I say it was welcome?

She wanted liberty with freedom
I sincerely granted and objected seldom
It was still not of her liking
Almost small things were to her disliking

She may take an offence
Almost every time and not once
I thought of taking more chances
I consoled self to keep up word with promise

She may not miss a day
With quarrel but always find a way
To create disturbance
For this, she needed no chance

She had thought me as useless
She may not tell it on face
I could read it in her eyes
What she wanted to utter or try?

She left the house one day in morning
Not to return home even in the evening
Next day I received the surprise letter
The divorce was the subject matter

I thought it over and reacted
Consulted lawyer and posted
Suitable reply to suit her image
I was tired of now an age

“If animals can live peacefully”? I wondered
What are we doing on this earth really?
I had no answer but to express regret
It is good to be late than never late
