Texas Think Tanks Poem by Alexander Beebe

Texas Think Tanks

Through out this great state, in every small town
In store fronts and cafes can always be found.
A bastion of knowledge so eager to share
The fix for our country so deep in despair.
.
At your first gaze the club seems so private.
Many decades old its members still thriving.
The cost of admission no more than a howdy.
The topics will vary, their passions get rowdy.

The profit from sorghum, the yield from the maze
The cost of their diesel, the youth of today.
The topic of sermons preached at the church.
National politics, it all will be heard.

The “FIX” for what ails us is tossed back and forth.
Opinions they vary, most blame what lies north.
“If they’d listen to me I’d give the solution.”
Old Hank says, “I’ll bet” they laugh at conclusions.

A lifetime of knowledge is stored in their minds.
Decades of hard work, dedication and pride.
It behooves you to listen to what they will share.
These lessons on life, few books will compare.

Towns like Karnes City, Dewees and Snyder
Plantersville, Odem, Cuero and Shiner.
Such are the places where higher learning is free
For those that take pause for some talk and sweet tea.
