Terrace Of Magnificence Poem by Je'free Y .

Terrace Of Magnificence

In an assembly of social butterflies,
Slightly intoxicated by Chardonnay,
And gourmet appetizers,
A mesmerizing ambiance
That put me under some trance,
Or in a bliss of blinged-out seniors,
I zoned out to a minute of anti-socialization
Where palms, past the golden colonnades,
Mildly swayed above the Pacific.
Deeper into trance, it sank into me -
My gracious host with the most
Owns this terrace of magnificence.

A salty summer zephyr kissed my cheeks,
And I sensed the Garden of Eden
Reconstructed before my envy eyes.
Behind me stood a palace, a grand one,
That almost seemed like it touched
The moonless sky, mingling with the stars.

I fantasized, a bittersweet fantasy,
Wondering what it feels like to possess
My friend's pocket & enthusiasm for aesthetics.
I had to pinch myself to remember who I was -
Not the rich friend, but the friend of the rich.
I found myself whispering, cursing in awe;
Then tapped on the shoulder by another guest -
'Would you like to see the pool? '
In half dream state, I replied – Ok.

Life was a banquet; as if there was no
Penniless man starving on the streets -
Grilled tenderloin, White Burgundy, Champagne.
We witnessed too much imbalance in the world -
A glamour night of ostentation and plenty
Against an empty plate on the poor side of town.
