Ten Years Poem by Chaotic Life aka Curly Mer

Ten Years

It's been a decade now.
A decade since the massive destruction
that killed 2,997 lives
411 of whom lost their lives in attempt to save others.
3,251 children lost a parent this very day...

It's a blessing to be able to say, ten years later,
that I wasn't affected by the terrorist attack.
I hear the stories of my friends,
how they had to evacuate from their schools
and watch the destruction all over TV instead of watching CartoonNetwork.
Their hearts racing,
their parents yelling over the phone just to see if their loved ones were safe
I can tell how confused and scared they were.
How lucky I was...
Sitting in the warm kitchen with my siblings
in St. Martin, a small Caribbean island,
watching cartoons on TV
not really caring when my dad announced to us after a phone call
that something bad was happening in United States,
a place I did not even know existed.

Hearing the stories of the families who lost a loved one on 9/11
and watching the videos as the Twin Towers collapse
breaks my heart..
Every year on this day
I thank God that I was safe and still innocent
and pray for those who weren't...
How quick something can change thousands of lives..

God bless America and every family that was affected on this day.
