Tell Me What To Do? Poem by Smriti Gupta

Tell Me What To Do?

Rating: 4.5

O, wise world!
To turn stars to fish
Or what my heart pleases
Kill the moon with water
Or plant my own dreams

Tell me what to do
O, wise world!
Give me directions
Like you’ve always dictated
Sell my shadow
Like you’ve always mortgaged!
Stifle my voice
With green flags of yours
Gag my throat
Like your miserable lot…

Tell me what to do
O, wise world!
I won’t protest
I am not so strong
Pardon me my breathe
And the untamable beast of thought
Kill me with your norms
Impose all your ‘rights and wrongs’
Light my path with judgment
And inedible crude prejudices
I promise to bear your hypocrisy
I pledge till end to slog
Tell me what to do
O, wise world!
Just don’t sell my soul,
Please just don’t sell my soul,
Don’t sell my soul…!
