Tears For Taps Poem by Michael Peterson

Tears For Taps

Rating: 5.0

A parade to remember the fallen soldiers
The Color Guard marches in stride
Proudly carry the colors
The aging veterans wearing uniforms of the past
Marines, Airmen, Army, Navy, Coast Guards all together
Saluting the flags with Pride and Tears
The lost of friends and family hits hard
Memories of battles fading, Stories forgotten
Wanting to remind us of how the past was
Hatred and greed, power hungry till the end
Freedom has its price, young and old
The bands playing patriotic songs
Floats of the big wars, Memories of bad times
Many lives lost, many returned different
Minds and bodies taking its toll
Seeing the few War World 2 vets go by
Not many Korean Vets left either
Our Heroes may be fading
But the stories will live forever
The unsung heroes of Vietnam
The war, they say, was shameful
Those soldiers gave all for the freedom of others
We should thank them proudly
Desert Stormer the forgotten fighters
Freeing Kuwait, sacrificing few
A big return by the Vietnam Vets
Now fading away to the back of history
The new war veterans coming by
Fighting a new war, Terrorist all over
A harder and messier war
Lots of deaths, reminded of the past
Manycrosses popping up
Seeing all the wounded and scared Veterans
Struggling to be with us, sad, so sad
Wishing wars were gone, peace forever
Reality says more to come
Seeing the tanks, hummers, Jeeps, guns
Reminds us of the strong, tough soldiers
The battles theses have seen
The stories they could tell
Seeing the people along the road
Cheering the veterans, saluting, waving
How proud they make us feel
To the Veteran Memorial we go
The anthem, Raising the flags
Showing honor, pride and respect
Covering all wars, thanking them all
Prayers and silence for the fallen
Laying the wreath and the flag to honor the dead
For each war and for each branch a touching moment
Saluting each one with a tear and a memory
Lowering the flag to have staff
The 21 gun salute going off
The silence and the stoppable of time in the air
The Bugler starts to play Taps
As I salute the dead, I cry so dearly
Remembering lost friends and family
A tear for every Soldier, every lost soul
Being in a group such as this
It's an honor, I cherish, till my death
I am proud to be a war Veteran
They will never be forgotten during my time
Amazing Grace is being played by the high school band
Hearing all the people singing, amazing
Makes you want to cry with pride
How such a sad time brings strangers together
To pay respect and honor the lost heroes of our time
The veterans never died, they live in all of us in our freedom
Salute to my Fellow Veterans
