Te Deum Poem by Charles Reznikoff

Te Deum

Rating: 3.9

Not because of victories
I sing,
having none,
but for the common sunshine,
the breeze,
the largess of the spring.

Not for victory
but for the day's work done
as well as I was able;
not for a seat upon the dais
but at the common table.

We would live a rich life if we were counting each day spent among God's creation as a beautiful victory and if we were thankful for all our blessings of hearth and home. Simply written, which gives it its elegance.

Não é para vitória mas para o trabalho do dia feito assim como eu era capaz; não por um assento em cima do estrado mas na mesa comum. I love the last verse: Not for victory but for the day's work done as well as I was able; not for a seat upon the dais but at the common table.

Not because of victories I sing, having none, but for the common sunshine, the breeze, the largess of the spring - I Italian: Non Canto per vittorie che non mai conseguito, ma per la semplice luce del sole, per il vento, per la generosità della primavera.
