Tape Recorder Poem by Cassondra Pollard

Tape Recorder

If I could stop the tape recorder from playing in my brain,
I would stop it from replaying all my hurts and pain.
It's time to make new memories in life,
Stop replaying all my heartaches and strife.
It's time to record new songs, time to move on,
Stop pressing rewind and replaying my wrongs.
My life could finally be restored to order.
If only I could turn off the tape recorder.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I wrote this poem because I have a very estranged relationship with my mother and after reflecting on our relationship I realized I had the tendency to never forget a wrong done to me or what I have done to myself and it was causing me to live my life in the past, unable to move forward. This poem came to be while I was and still am on that journey of healing.
